Today’s Card: King of Pentacles
The King of Pentacles depicts a distinguished older man sitting comfortable on a chair. His face is relaxed and content. On his lap, he has a large pentacle and next to him, there is a dog lounging on the floor.
In the more traditional decks, the figure sits on a throne with a castle in the background. Here, though, the figure is indoors, sitting in what appears to be a library.
Minor Arcana – Pentacles:
The suit of Pentacles is associated with the element of Earth and represents the material world – work, money, and physical health.
The King of Pentacles represents financial stability, authority, and success.
In Tarot, the Court cards often represent people rather than events. As a person, the King of Pentacles is financially stable, hard working, and successful. He’s representative of ambition and the accumulation of material wealth and status. He’s been able to reach his goals due to his steadfast determination.
When this card comes up, then, it may suggest that someone with these traits will soon enter your life. Or, if you know someone with King of Pentacles energy, this card may be representative of them.
Alternatively, this card might be suggesting that you take on these same qualities in your own life. Perhaps you need to be showing some more ambition or developing your own sense of determination in order to succeed.
For the most part, the King of Pentacles has positive qualities as a person. He’s generous, confident, financially secure, and driven. But every Court card (just like every person) has both positive and negative traits.
On the negative side, though, the King of Pentacles might be a bit of a workaholic. He might value material wealth too much – maybe he’s too focused on money and things than he is on his loved ones. He might be too consumed by social status and achievement that he’s lost sight of what really matters.
In this case, the King of Pentacles might serve as a warning that you need to step back and stop worrying so much about how other people see you.
Guidance for your Love Life
As I stated earlier, the Court Cards are often representative of people rather than events. In a love reading, the King of Pentacles is most likely a specific person.
If you’re single, this might mean that someone like the King of Pentacles will soon be entering your life. This would be a very good sign, too! This King symbolizes financial security and wealth, thus perhaps you’ll soon be meeting someone with a good job, a house, a car… basically, a guy who has his shit together.
It’s also likely suggesting that you’ll be meeting someone who is emotionally and mentally stable, someone who is ready for a true partnership.
If you’re in a relationship, this card might represent your current partner. Do they seem like they have King of Pentacle energy? If not, perhaps this card is suggesting that you need to develop some of that determination and generosity displayed by King P.
For a relationship to work, both partners have to be willing to work at it. They have to put forth effort and time, they have to give affection and communication freely.
So, when this card comes up in a love spread, it might be symbolic of your relationship. Are you and your partner both putting forth strong effort? Are you being generous with your time, energy, and affection? Do you feel like your relationship is strong, stable, and secure?
If not, this card is serving as advice, telling you that you need to start paying more attention to sowing the seeds of your love in order to make the relationship work.
