Today’s Card: Page of Swords
The Page of Swords in the Light Seer’s Tarot deck depicts a woman reading a book, holding an array of light-bulb shaped balloons, and walking across a sword.
In most other decks, the Page of Swords is depicted as a figure standing on a small hill and holding a single sword in the air.
Almost all RWS based versions, though, portray wind and birds present in some way.
Minor Arcana – Swords:
The suit of Swords is associated with the element of Air and represents intellect, logic, and conflict.
Court Member – Page
Pages are messengers, bringing a new beginning.
In general, the Page of Swords represents the pursuit of knowledge, new ideas, and curiosity.
The woman depicted in the card above is shown reading a book while tight-rope walking between two surfaces. She seems to have a lot of balls in the air – yet she’s so entranced with reading, that she doesn’t appear worried at all.
This Page is hungry for knowledge, curious and eager to learn, but also can be seen as somewhat reckless or arrogant.
On the one hand, it’s admirable that she’s able to show such strong focus on her book while in a seemingly dangerous situation. However, this could also be seen as impulsivity or naivete (after all, Pages are the youngest member of the Tarot court, and thus, they tend to lack some life experience.)
The other important thing to note about this card is the appearance of wind and birds.
Wind symbolizes turbulence and instability. In cards where there is a heavy storm, there’s obviously a lot of turmoil happening. But in this card, it seems like a light breeze. She might, then, be feeling a tad uncertain about her future.
Since Pages can represent a message, this could also be interpreted as receiving new information that causes some emotional turbulence. While it’s always useful to know the truth, sometimes, the truth can cause pain.
Birds can symbolize a couple of things – one of which is gossip. As birds travel in a flock, the appearance of birds in Tarot can represent group dynamics or idle chit-chat.
Guidance for Your Love Life
In most instances, the Page of Swords can be interpreted as a positive sign – indicating new ideas and inspiration. In a love life spread, however, this card isn’t quite as promising.
When the Page of Swords appears in a relationship reading, it can indicate trouble in paradise. You and your partner may be having more arguments than usual, though it’s likely mild conflict rather than relationship-ending issues.
Perhaps you’ve been a bit too blunt lately and it’s causing some friction. In this case, the Page of Swords is telling you to be more careful with your words.
If you’re single, this card tends to suggest patience – you might be really itching to get back out there, but don’t rush into anything just yet.
Fool’s Journey Challenge
If you follow me on Instagram, you might already know that I’m doing the Fools Journey challenge for the month of April and the Page of Swords was what I drew for today’s prompt.
Day 13: What Keeps me from Moving Forward on my Journey?
It’s interesting that I drew the Page of Sword in response to a question about what’s holding me back, as this card usually suggests the opposite.
But, in my own life, I can see the correlation and relevance.
I’ve been undertaking a lot of new things lately, particularly with my blog. I (finally) decided to get a self-hosted domain, which has meant a LOT of time spent moving my posts and articles to the new platform and trying to figure out how to set it up.
I’m offering Tarot Readings now on Buy Me a Coffee, working on a book, and thinking about ways of monetizing the blogs in the future, either with printables or an E-book.
With so many different ideas going on (not to mention the fact that I balance it with my day job and personal life), it sometimes feels overwhelming. It’s also sometimes just not feasible! I have the ideas and drive, but I don’t always have the ability to actually put it into action.
I think this card could be indicating that what’s holding me back is the fact I’m wanting to do too much, and instead, I need to pick something and focus on that.
