Today’s Card: Three of Pentacles
This card depicts three people working together to complete an intricate tapestry. One figure is standing up on a ladder holding the tapestry, one is standing in front of the tapestry, and the third is sitting on the floor and knitting.
Other decks show a different project being worked on, but, importantly, there are always three figures shown in the card. In addition, almost all decks show the three workers standing (or working) at different heights.
Minor Arcana – Pentacles:
The suit of Pentacles is associated with the element of Earth and represents the material world, such as money, work, or finances.
In general, the three of pentacles represents teamwork, learning a new skill, and being motivated – the three figures are all working together, focused on the task at hand. Crucially – there is no tension between them.
As Pentacles represent the material realm, this card tends to represent a work-based collaboration. If you have a project coming up, this card advises you to make sure and listen to your colleagues or peers. You might think you can do it on your own, but having an open mind and accepting support from those around you will get you farther ahead.
Another really interesting thing to consider with this card is the fact that the 3 figures are often shown in different heights. This symbolizes the fact that they all have differing levels of expertise. Even though one person may be “higher up,” they all have something to gain by working as a team.
On the negative, side, though, this card might be suggesting that you’re not staying open to other ideas or that you’re being too fixated on doing things your way. If that’s the case, you might want to take a step back and listen to the people around you.
Guidance for Your Love Life
In a love life reading, the three of pentacles is usually a pretty good sign.
For those in a relationship, this card suggests a strong partnership. It means that you and your partner are working well together – you are both committed to the relationship and putting equal efforts into making things work. It also suggests a good level of compromise.
If, however, you pull this card and you and your partner are currently going through a rough patch, this card might be suggesting that you seek counseling. There are 3 people depicted in the card, but (most) relationships only include 2. Thus, you can read this card as an indication that getting relationship help from a third person – someone with more “expertise” than you – might not be a bad idea.
Finally, if you get this card and you’re single, it might represent focusing your energy on work, family, or friendships right now rather than looking for anything romantic. You’ll get there, in time, but now isn’t necessarily the right time for that.
